Gay Couples: The Challenge of the 90's. More gay couples are beginning to seek marital or couples counseling. This phenomena is rather refreshing since it reinforces what the literature is reflecting-gays are committed to relationships. During the 90's with growing changes in social climates, gay couples are going to be faced with many issues: sharing financial matters, intergrating and fitting into "straight" society, shared parenting, community involvement and the elements of trust invovled with these concerns. A week will be planned to discuss other issues and a recontracting period will be offered.
Jim Priester, A.C.S.W., L.I.S.W., will be offering a six week group therapy session to deal with these issues. The cost is $50 for 6 weeks and all fees will be donated to the Chronicle. Pre-screening is required. Call 486-3003 for more information or to register.

HRCF hires Speak Out organizers. The Human Rights Campaign Fund has hired two veteran organizers to expand HRCF's Speak Out canvass programs throughout the United States. HRCF, the largest national gay and lesbian advocacy group, anticipates strong growth in the Speak Out program during the
coming year.
Speak Out has become the largest and most successful grass roots program in the history of the lesbian and gay rights movement. The program generates thousands of messages to Congress prior to important votes on AIDS and lesbian and gay rights issues. Participants in the program agree to have Western Union messages sent to their federal representatives when HRCF's lobbying team determines that constituent pressure can be most effective.
Cathy Nelson and David Nicholas have been named to develop HRCF's grassroots canvass programs and help build participation in the Speak Out program at community events and in lesbian and gay gathering places around the country. Together, the two new HRCF staff members hope to generate additional participation of lesbians and gays throughout the United States in the political process.
More Speak Out organizers sought. The Human Rights Campaign Fund is looking for well-organized, enthusiastic and assertive individuals nationwide to become "Area Canvass Supervisors" in the next stage of development for the highly successful Speak Out program.
Supervisors will identify community events and other opportunities for enrolling participants in the Speak Out program. In addition to canvassing themselves, the supervisors will recruit, train and supervise other canvassers at events. Those selected for the positions will set their own hours and remuneration based on Speak Out enrollments and will have responsibilities for a specific geographic area of the country.
For more information on how to become an HRCF Canvass Supervisor, contact Cathy Nelson, eastern states canvass manager, or David Nicholas, western states canvass manager, at 202628-4160; or write to the HRCF canvass unit, P.O. Box 1723, Washington, D.C. 20013.
